Kadala Curry( Kerala style Creamy Black Chickpeas Curry )

Chickpeas !! It’s so full of goodness. So here’s a recipe of chickpeas again in the blog after the healthy salad recipe with it.. In Kerala Kadala Curry/ Black chickpeas curry is mainly served as a breakfast curry with ” Appam” and “Puttu”..

Normally I used to make Kadala curry in coconut sauce.. But this time  I substituted it with another ingredient which sounds really easy and yummy.. So if you want to know about that special ingredient check the recipe..

so here’s the recipe:


Ingredients:

chickpeas-1/2 cup( soaked overnight)

onion-1 ( chopped )

tomato-big 1( chopped )

ginger -garlic paste-1 spoon + 1 spoon

Turmeric powder-1/2 spoon+ 1/2 spoon

coriander powder-2 spoon + 2 spoon

chilly powder-1/2 teaspoon + 1/2 teaspoon

Karahi masala powder-1 1/2 spoon

Garam masala powder-1 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon

curry leaves-as per needed

coconut oil-2spoon

mustard seeds-1/2 teaspoon

Cooking cream-4-5 spoon

How to make:

1)firstly we have to boil the chickpeas in a pressure cooker order tramadol next day delivery along with water, all the spices , salt and ginger garlic powder( that’s why it’s’ quantity is mentioned double) and keep it aside with the boiled water!! For chickpeas 3 whistles are enough..

2) now heat a pan ,add oil and splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves..to this add onion, and ginger garlic paste.. Sauté for few minutes..

3)now add all the spice powders left and stir well.. Then add tomatoes and cook it in low flame with lid closed.

4)now add some chickpeas boiled water to this paste and cook for some time.. Later add all the boiled chickpeas and cook in high flame.. Till the curry reaches required thick consistency..

5)now let’s add the special ingredient-fresh cream to the curry and mix well.. Cook for 2-3 mins in low flame and off the flame!!

    1. Actually it’s a Pakistani spice mix .. Very yummy adds a new taste to all the recipes..new addition to my pantry as well..☺️

        1. Here in Doha it’s available in all Indian Groceries.. So in your place , if there’s any Indian / Pakistani grocery please do check there.. And the brand “shaan” is the best one!!

  3. Looks gorgeous! Is there anything we can substitute for the karahi masala if we can’t find it?

    1. Thank you so much☺️!! In the ingredients list of Karahi masala it’s written-red chilli, paprika,brown cardamom, dried papaya powder,fenugreek leaves,clove ,cinnamon pepper etc..
      I think papaya powder is the new ingredient among the rest!!
