Rice Dumplings With Shredded Chicken/ “Irachi Pidi”:
Today’s Fasting went really well… There was a cool breeze because of the rain..today I prepared my hubby’s favorite Ramadan Snack-” Irachi Pidi”..
He was quite surprised to see it on the dining table during Ifthar..!!it’s another dish from my hometown-Kerala which can be done in many ways as per taste-sweet, spicy or curry type..
here’s my version of irachi pidi:
- Shredded chicken-1 small plate( boiled in water with masala and shredded )
- Onion-2 ( finely chopped )
- Ginger-1 medium pc ( crushed )
- garlic -4-5 cloves( crushed )
- cilantro leaves-a small bunch ( chopped )
- Cumin seeds-1/2 teaspoon( crushed)
- fennel seeds-1/2 teaspoon
- Chilly powder-1 teaspoon
- turmeric powder-1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder-1 big spoon
- garam masala powder-1/2 teaspoon
- Rice flour-1 cup
- water-1 cup
- coconut oil-1 spoon
- Ghee-1/2 teaspoon
How to make:
1)first of all lets make the rice dumplings.. Boil 1 cup water in a big vessel with some salt..when its boiled, add the rice flour.. Soon stir hard with a Spatula at low flame..after a few seconds off the flame..
2)now take it other plate and press nicely with hands..don’t let it to cool much.. It has to be pressed to soft dough soon .. Occasionally can you buy ultram in mexico keep your hands on cool water to make it easy for pressing hot dough..
3)Now take small lumps and roll it into small bead sized balls.. ??!! This is the difficult part in this snack.. But i love rolling into small balls..my favorite part while preparing!!
4)now lets heat a steaming dish and grease the strainer portion of it with some ghee.. Add the rice balls to it.. And cook with the lid closed!! Off the flame when its done..give a nice stir with a spoon along with some ghee..
5)now lets start preparing the masala..heat the wok..add coconut oil..splutter with fennel seeds.. Soon add onion..along with some salt..
6)saute it well and soon add the G&G paste.. And cilantro leaves.. Also add the masala powders..cook well after adding the shredded chicken..
7)add some water to make it a bit curry type.. Cook well..
8)now add more salt or masala powders if needed.. Add the rice dumplings and cook all together well in low flame with lid closed for 8-10 mins..and off the flame!!
Irachi pidi is ready…??!!
The rice dumplings were well immersed in the yummy curry..
